  • Group Visits

The Museum is a great place for a group visit and we can offer a range of different options and facilities to suit the needs of your group.

Self Led Groups

If you are planning to bring a group of 10 or more for a self-led visit, please book in advance using the NEW online booking system below. This includes Language or Summer Schools, Community Groups (e.g. U3A, Brownies), and Higher Education. You will then be emailed a form which must be completed to confirm your visit.

Pre-booking your visit helps us to control numbers within our spaces to ensure a positive museum experience for all. We recommend booking at least two-weeks in advance. Please do not arrive at the Museum without a booking confirmation as you will not be admitted.

Visits on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during Cambridgeshire school term-time are available from 2pm only.

Group Size

The maximum group size is 30 people per timeslot. If your group is larger, please make two separate bookings, or let us know so that a suggested timetable can be made for your visit. Please make sure that students under the age of 18 are always accompanied by an adult. We require a minimum ratio of 1 adult to 10 students when visiting the galleries.

Charges

There is no charge, but donations are appreciated and directly support our learning and outreach work, and the care and conservation of our collection. Payment can be made in advance through the Cambridge University Giving page, or can be accepted by our receptionist on the day of the visit.

Resources

The Museum does not have the resources to offer taught sessions for EFL students. Group leaders are welcome to provide self-led tours for small groups and to make use of the learning resources available here.

Museum Tours

For adult groups, we offer a 1-hour Museum Overview Tour of the galleries with a subject specialist. To request a tour, please email the Museum directly at umzc@zoo.cam.ac.uk. Tours are subject to staff availability. Please note that there is a charge for this service.

Audio description and touch tours

The Museum of Zoology education team lead audio descriptive and touch tours as part of the University of Cambridge Museums ‘Making Sense’ tours programme. This service is also available to blind and partially sighted groups, if requested when booking.
