Pictured: ringlet, Aphantopus hyperantus
Notes from Jenyns: Not unfrequent at Bottisham & in grassy lanes about Ely. ~ Taken also in Whitewood by J.C. Dale, Esq.
200-year trend in Cambridgeshire: Little change, possible slight increase.
Modern records
The ringlet is now widespread and common throughout the county, especially in woodland rides and meadows with long grass. It is perhaps slightly more abundant than Jenyns’ day, where he lists it as ‘not unfrequent’, but it has probably been quite common throughout the last 200 years.
