Pictured: large white, Pieris brassicae
Notes from Jenyns: Common everywhere: the larvae on cabbages in the Autumn. ~
200-year trend in Cambridgeshire: Probable decline.
Modern records
Today, as in Jenyns’ time, this species is widespread and common throughout the county, and often frequents cabbage patches. However, the use of pesticides both commercially and in gardens will have probably reduced the total population of butterflies.
