The Museum houses one of the largest natural history collections in the UK, with an extraordinarily rich history dating back to 1814. We display thousands of specimens, yet we have many more carefully kept behind the scenes in our extensive storerooms, which are constantly being used in research. With a deeper look into our collections, our research projects help answer key ecological and other scientific questions, and we can also attempt to uncover the details about how we acquired our specimens, their hidden histories and where possible we can reveal information about the people who were involved in collecting them. This more ‘in-depth’ research into our collections (including one resource that helps us to further explore our collections – 3D modelling) make up our ‘Collections Uncovered’ pages, which we hope, over time, we will be able to expand as we learn more about our collections.
