Pictured: common blue, Polyommatus icarus
Notes from Jenyns: Common everywhere. ~
200-year trend in Cambridgeshire: Slight decline.
Modern records
This species is still widespread and common throughout the county. Together with the holly blue, the two species represent the most abundant blue butterflies in Cambridgeshire. Loss of traditional hay meadows on the majority of farms will have caused an overall loss of total individuals, but where suitable habitats occur it remains reasonably common.
