Pictured: mountain ringlet, Erebia epiphron
Notes from Jenyns: This species is not mentioned in Jenyns’ notebooks.
200-year trend in Cambridgeshire: No change.
Modern records
This butterfly is the UK’s only true mountain specialist and is confined to peaks in the Lake District and the Scottish Highlands. As such, it has never been found in Cambridgeshire. Looking to the future, a warming climate means its restricted national distribution is likely to reduce even further.
