Join us for BioBlitz Cambridge 2013! Starting at 3pm on Friday June 21 2013, experts, volunteers and members of the public will be racing against time to count as many species of animals and plants as possible in Wandlebury Country Park. There’s lots to discover in these wonderful grounds on the outskirts of Cambridge:

Online booking is now live!
There are lots of activities and wildlife workshops you can book onto in advance to make sure you have a place. Meet the experts and learn about different types of plants and animals living at Wandlebury. Online booking is now live. Just click on the link next to the workshop you are interested in and it will take you through to the online booking system. Some of the workshops are fully booked, but we will be running a waiting list on the day. There will be other activities and sessions during Saturday 22 June that you don’t need to book onto, so there are lots of reasons to come along and take part in the big species count!

 Guided Wildlife Walk of Wandlebury
Friday 21 June, 3pm-4pm
Join Senior Ranger Jon Gibbs and discover the wildlife of Wandlebury with this introductory walk around the site.

 Reptiles & Amphibians at Wandlebury
Friday 21 June, 4pm-5pm
From frogs to slow worms, find out about the reptile and amphibian life at Wandlebury Country Park with Interpretation Ranger Frances Cooper.

 Bumblebee Survey
Friday 21 June, 5.30pm-7pm
Join Dr Lynn Dicks of Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge and learn how to identify the six most common species of British bumblebee and one relatively new arrival from Europe – the tree bumblebee. During the activity we’ll monitor bumblebees feeding in Wandlebury and search for bumblebee nest sites. With your help, we should be able to add at least seven species to the BioBlitz list.

 Surveying Small Mammals
Friday 21 June, 6pm-7pm
Find out about the mammals in Wandlebury Country Park, and how they are monitored with Senior Ranger Jon Gibbs.

 Moth Trapping
Friday 21 June, 11pm-12.30am
After the sun goes down the skies come alive with a variety of moths large and small. Discover some of the diversity of these important insects with moth trapping.

 Bird Walks
Saturday 22 June 5am-6.45am and 7am-8.45am
Visit Wandlebury in the early morning to hear beautiful birdsong. Join this workshop with Dr Ben Phalan of the University of Cambridge Department of Zoology to learn bird identification and how to recognise different species from their song.

 Moth Trap Release

Discover the diversity of British Moths as we release them from the trap collecting them overnight.

 Slime and Shells Slug and Snail Survey
Saturday 22 June, 10.30am-11.30am and 12.30pm-1.30pm
Join Dr Richard Preece of the Museum of Zoology and discover slugs and snails from big garden snails to their smaller, more unusual cousins. There is more diversity in these invertebrates than you might
think – can we find over 40 species?

Help survey a patch of woodland, identifying the different trees and counting how many of each species are present in that area.

Join Dr Ed Turner of the Museum of Zoology and learn about the ways we can record insect life, from sweep netting to pitfall traps. Discover some of the myriad of minibeasts living in Wandlebury Country Park and get set to take part in the big species count.
