Riodinidae – The metalmarks

There is only one representative of this family in all of Europe, which gives its history over the last 200 years particular geographic and evolutionary importance. Other members of this family can be found in the tropics and have metallic colours, which gave rise to the group name ‘metalmarks’. However, these metallic colours are not possessed by the species in the UK.
