Scientific name: Rhacognathus punctatus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Common name: Heather Bug

Description: This is an interesting record from Jenyns' collection as this species of shieldbug lives on heath and moorland. This habitat was lost from most of Cambridgeshire a long time ago and it is likely that this species vanished along with it. Even in Jenyns' time this would have been a very rare find and a single specimen collected by Jenyns is the only example in the Museum recorded as coming from the local area. Jenyns' notebook entry on the species is listed under a different name as its taxonomy has since been updated. Its entry reads: 'Neighbourhood of Bottisham.'
